6 His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude.ĭaniel 10:7 And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision, but a great trembling fell upon them, and they fled to hide themselves. The description of what he saw is very similar to John’s vision of the resurrected Jesus in Revelation 1.ĭaniel 10:5 I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, a man clothed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist. Possibly this was an appearance of the pre-incarnate Son of God, Jesus who has always existed, before he became human, born of a virgin. It was at the end of this time that he received a vision, possibly of a mighty angel (we learn in chapter 12 that there were at least two other angels who appeared to him on the banks of the river). Daniel abstained from delicacies for three weeks of days, right through Passover and the feast of unleavened bread. The 14 th day of the first month would have been the first Passover celebration back in the land in 50 years, a celebration of God’s deliverance of his people from captivity. Now in 536 BC, the third year of Cyrus, the foundation of temple had still not been laid. In the second year of Cyrus, only 42,360 Jews returned to Jerusalem (Ezra 2:64) and the work of rebuilding was slow. In the first year of Cyrus, he issued a decree allowing the Jews to return to Jerusalem and rebuild their temple. 4 On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the great river (that is, the Tigris)

But God does promise to always be with you and to use all things (both the good AND the bad) for good in your life. This doesn’t mean that your life will always go smoothly or that bad things won’t happen. But God promises to always be with you and to protect you. Throughout your life, there will be times when things are difficult.

In Daniel 6:22, Daniel says, “My God knew that I was innocent, and he sent an angel to keep the lions from eating me.” Daniel’s faith in God kept him from being harmed ( Daniel 6:23). Daniel didn’t stop following God’s law though, even though he knew it would get him into trouble or even get him killed! He needed to be brave and courageous and trust that God would protect him even when things seemed terrible. There was just one problem: Daniel followed God’s law and that sometimes went against the king’s laws. God allowed Daniel to become one of the king’s administrators. The story of Daniel shows that God is always in control. Throughout the Bible, there are many examples of how God protects his people, even when situations seem hopeless.
